'Gossip Girl' Characters, Ranked From Least to Most Garbage

Moviefone
March 18, 2016 - 1 min read

We all know the characters on "Gossip Girl" are selfish a-holes. There wouldn't be enough drama if they weren't. They redeem themselves only to do something worse three episodes later. That said, here's our definitive ranking of "Gossip Girl" characters, from least to most garbage.

16. Dorota (Zuzanna Szadkowski)

Dorota is a shining angel who deserves only good things ever. Even though Blair goes a little crazy at times, Dorota is always there to make sure she's okay. Technically, Dorota has a hand in the shenanigans Blair gets into, but she's just being helpful. We all need a Dorota in our life.

15. Eric Van Der Woodsen (Connor Paolo)

Honestly, Eric is barely in the show. It's no surprise Revenge." He's either being dragged into trouble by Jenny or Serena. If not, he's just trying to hang out with his boyfriend. Eric is usually the voice of reason when the people around him were being the most garbage they could be.

14. Eleanor Waldorf (Margaret Colin)

Probably the best parent on the show, Eleanor lacks a little empathy, but she teaches Blair to be a self-respecting and responsible lady. All she wants is what's best for Blair, even if Blair doesn't always agree with her at first.

13. Nate Archibald (Chace Crawford)

Sweet, naive Nate. Most of the time, Nate has no idea what is going on. He's left out of the loop, unless someone needs him for something. He's essentially a pawn in his friend's game, we feel kind of bad for him. Also, he loves "The Sound of Music," so he can't be that bad.

12. Rufus Humphrey (Matthew Settle)

Rufus loves waffles, his kids, and Lily -- in that order. Rufus tries to be the nice guy all the time, but living with Lily rubs off on a guy, so sometimes he gets a little caught up in the UES games. He's an overbearing dad who is a little self-righteous, but he's trying his best.

11. Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester)

Blair is no angel, we know that and she knows that. But out of all the characters, no one had more character growth than her. She started out as a spiteful, manipulative teenager who transformed into a passionate, hardworking, and still a bit manipulative woman. Even when she's up to no good, she's never actually trying to ruin anyone's life, she's trying to make hers better. Who doesn't want to live their best life? The rest of her friends were far more malicious than Blair could ever be.

10. Ivy Dickens (Kaylee DeFer)

Ivy was once a laid-back, fun girl looking to be an actress. But once she was paid to pretend to be part of the Van Der Woodsen family, she went a little off the deep end. We get it, going from struggling to pay rent to leading a life of luxury is pretty tempting, and we wouldn't want to leave it either. She did earn some points for selflessly taking care of CeCe (Lily's mother) when she was sick.

9. Lily Van Der Woodsen (Kelly Rutherford)

Lily tries to be a good mom, she really does. Sometimes, she just goes over the line. Sending your daughter to jail to teach her a lesson? That's really pushing it, girl. She is very selfish and way to concerned with her image. But Lily isn't all bad. When she's with Rufus, it makes her a bit of a better person (most of the time). Too bad he ended up with Lisa Loeb (for real). She just has too much money for her own good.

8. Jenny Humphrey (Taylor Momsen)

Jenny leaving the show was maybe the best thing that could've happened to it. If something wasn't going right for her, she did anything (and we mean anything), to make herself feel better. Like, want to lose her virginity to Chuck even after he tried to rape her a few years before that. She also was just always so mad she wasn't rich, but her family lived in Dumbo which is actually more expensive to live in now than the Upper East Side, so maybe calm down Jenny.

7. Georgina Sparks (Michelle Trachtenberg)

Georgina is the villain you love to hate, but also just plain love sometimes. She is honestly bonkers and causes problems because it's fun for her. She doesn't hide her crazy, she is almost too upfront about it. At one point, she got really into religion and found what she thought was her path in life, but was quickly dragged out of it by Blair. Even though she is terrible, at least she's having fun. Plus, it's not like her plans ever work in her favor; she always loses.

6. Bart Bass (Robert John Burke)

There's a reason Chuck is so messed up: Because his dad is maybe the worst father ever and shouldn't have been allowed to raise children. He faked his death! He let his son think he was dead! Who does that?!

5. Louis Grimaldi (Hugo Becker)

Louis was in fewer than 20 episodes of the show and somehow out-garbaged most of the other characters. He is essentially Hans from "Frozen" in the "Gossip Girl" world, only he waited until after he and Blair were married to reveal his true self. Their wedding dance is maybe one of the most tense and terrifying scenes of the series. Even more tense than that time Serena revealed she killed (but didn't really kill) that guy.

4. Vanessa Abrams (Jessica Szohr)

Ugh. Ughhhhhhhhhhh. Those are our feelings about Vanessa. When we're not too busy forgetting about her character, we're wondering why she's even there. Does anyone like her?! Vanessa is really good at ruining people's lives, pretending it was an accident, crying about it, and then disappearing for a couple episodes. When she finally left for good, it was a saving grace. Bye, Felicia.

3. Dan Humphrey (Penn Badgley)

Dan would've been a little more towards the least garbage end of this list if he wasn't Gossip Girl. The effort it takes to reveal to the world you cheated on your girlfriend with your ex-girlfriend / her best friend and then act shocked about it! So duplicitous! Also, Dan likes to whine a lot. Annoying.

2. Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick)

Chuck Bass. He does very little, but thinks he deserves everything. He treats most of the people in his life as if they're disposable -- that is unless he needs something from them. He essentially uses Blair as property in exchange for his hotel. He attempts to sleep with both Jenny and Serena -- without their consent. He might just be one of the most selfish people to ever grace our television screens. But, unlike Serena, he is very aware he's a monster. He isn't always bad, he has his soft and emotional moments, but that can never erase all the terrible things he does. Or all the terrible scarves he wears.

1. Serena Van Der Woodsen (Blake Lively)

Oh, poor little Serena Van Der Woodsen, her life is so hard. Oh wait, no it isn't. But, if you ask her, being rich and pretty and manipulating your friends is such a rough life to lead! We get it: everyone makes mistakes. But this girl makes mistakes like it's her job. Then she constantly acts like nothing is her fault. She is a victim in everything.
