Preview:

  • Kit Connor is reportedly playing Cyclops in the new ‘X-Men’ movie.
  • Marvel has yet to confirm the news.
  • Jake Schreier is directing the movie.

Though the casting process is far more mundane, we do like to imagine Jake Schreier, director of Marvel’s new ‘X-Men’ movie, standing atop a building at Disney and declaring, “to me, my X-Men!”

Only because, on the heels of news that Samara Weaving is reportedly in place to play Emma Frost, Deadline reports that ‘Heartstopper’ actor Kit Connor is now the studio’s choice to play Scott Summers/Cyclops.

We don’t know much about the movie right now, besides Schreier directing and ‘Beef’ creator Lee Sung Jin working with ‘The Bear’ co-creator Joanna Calo on the script.

Who is Scott Summers?

Summers has been one of the cornerstones of the X-Men comics first appearing in a 1963 The X-Men comic from Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. The character has always been seen as the captain of the team of mutants best known for the powerful beams of energy emitted from his eyes that he controls through a visor and various sunglasses. He also has a deep, but troubled relationship with a certain other mutant character recently added to the MCU (no spoilers here, but IYKYK)

On screen, Summers has been played by the likes of James Marsden (who is reprising the role for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’) and Tye Sheridan, who embodied a younger version of the character in ‘X-Men: First Class’ onwards.

And Connor marks just the latest member of the ‘Heartstopper’ main cast to appear in the MCU, following Joe Locke (‘Agatha All Along’s Billy) and Hayley Atwell (whose launch as Peggy Carter pre-dates her work on the Netflix series.)

When will the new ‘X-Men’ movie be on screens?

Disney and Marvel have yet to confirm when the X-Men movie will premiere, but chances are we'll see more elements put in place by the preceding likes of 'Doomsday' (landing December 17 this year) and 'Avengers: Secret Wars' due out on December 17, 2027.
