For the first time since Disney bought Lucasfilm, the production company will be bringing us a project that isn't a "Star Wars" or "Indiana Jones" film.

Although it sounds like all the details have yet to be worked out, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy is making "Children of Blood and Bone," an action fantasy film based on the bestselling novel by Nigerian-American author Tomi Adeyemi, a priority.

Equally newsworthy is the fact that the project started out as a Fox 2000 property and is one of the few films from the now-shuttered department that wasn't axed by Disney after its acquisition of Fox.

Rick Famuyiwa ("Dope," "The Chi") is attached to direct and "This Is Us" writer Kay Oyegun is being tapped to draft a new script. David Magee ("Life of Pi") was the first writer on the film when it was at Fox.

"Children of Blood and Bone is Tomi Adeyemi’s debut novel. It was influenced by her West African heritage. It follows two sets of siblings: The children of an iron-fisted king and a brother and sister who have suffered under his cruel regime.

A follow-up book "Children of Virtue and Vengeance," comes out later this year, so there is definitely franchise potential here.
