16 Movie Couples That Were Actually the Worst

Moviefone
June 1, 2016 - 1 min read

Relationships don't always work out, so we look to movies when we're feeling romantically challenged. Unfortunately, some movie couples actually suck, but somehow -- through Hollywood magic -- fool us into thinking they were meant for each other. Here are 16 of the worst offenders.

Andie & Blane in 'Pretty in Pink'

First of all, his name is Blane. While that should be reason enough, these two also have no chemistry and are a classic high school relationship destined to disintegrate after graduation.

Edward & Bella in the 'Twilight' Franchise

These two. Ugh. UGH. When the moral of your love story is that you should change who you are by dying and turning into a vampire, then that's a problem.

Romeo & Juliet in 'Romeo + Juliet'

Romeo and Juliet both need to take a nap before swiftly deciding to commit suicide, because, well, THEY ARE CRAZY. Love doesn't happen that quickly. Had they stayed alive, they would've broken up once the passion died down and realized they were just young and dumb.

Abby & Mike in 'The Ugly Truth'

Abby has a checklist of things she's looking for in a man. Mike has none of them. Cue rom-com shenanigans! But, when it comes down to it, Mike is a pig who will always be a pig and Abby would never deal with it. And Abby definitely needed to do some major soul searching before settling down, because there has to be some underlying reasons as to why she's so damn picky.

Edward & Vivian in 'Pretty Woman'

Everybody loves a Cinderella story, but this one just doesn't have us convinced. While Vivian is maybe the most charming woman in Los Angeles, Edward is cold and distant, and pretty much stays that way. He realizes he has an amazing girl, and he's made some strides in being less of an a-hole, but he's still not quite there yet. He definitely decides to sweep her off her feet just so no one else can.

Tom & Summer in '500 Days of Summer'

Everyone always looks at Summer as the worst, but it's really Tom who ruins this relationship. He makes the mistake of thinking Summer is just as in love with him as he is with her ... but was he ever really in love with her, or just the idea of her? These two were doomed from the start.

Gary & Brooke in 'The Break-Up'

Breaking up was honestly the best thing this couple could've done. They might love each other, but they seemingly fight over every little thing. That's no way to live life.

Mr. Big & Carrie in 'Sex and the City: The Movie'

In the television series, it seemed like these two deserved each other. In the movie and its sequel (ugh), it became clear that happily ever after doesn't really exist for the duo. They both treat each other like crap and are far too selfish to be in a stable relationship.

Joy & Jack in 'What Happens in Vegas'

A judge forcing you to stay married to someone you drunkenly married in Las Vegas would never happen in real life, and thank heavens. These two are both wide-awake nightmares and they probably broke up the second the credits rolled.

Rachel & Dex in 'Something Borrowed'

Everyone in this movie -- except for John Krasinski's character -- is absolute garbage. While these two do have some amazing chemistry, you should never steal your best friend's boyfriend. Nope. Not a great way to start a relationship.

Andie & Nate in 'The Devil Wears Prada'

Yes, Andie makes some mistakes, but she's doing it so she can build her resume and get an AMAZING gig. In this job market, beggars can't be choosers. Nate is completely unsupportive and whines like a little baby when he doesn't get his way. I get it, Nate, she missed your birthday. Yes, that sucks, but you're a grown adult. You've had plenty of birthdays. He was 100% allowed to have his frustrations, but to break up with your girlfriend because she's trying her best at work? Rude. Also, calm down about the cheese.

Sandy & Danny in 'Grease'

Summer love, that's all this should've been. Sandy and Danny do make beautiful music together, but in the end they both feel they have to change to be deserving of love. We don't know where that car takes them in the end, but we hope it was couples counseling in the sky.

Dionne & Murray in 'Clueless'

Controversy alert! Dionne and Murray's banter is adorable and fun to watch, but if you were in that relationship in real life, you'd need a stiff drink and a pint of ice cream on the reg. Dionne is too concerned with appearance and doesn't really seem to like Murray for who he is. Murray, on the other hand, is way too immature to be in a serious relationship.

Rhett & Scarlett in 'Gone With the Wind'

This is a toxic relationship at its very core. Even though we love to watch the drama unfold, if you ever find yourself dating a Rhett or a Scarlett, get the hell out of there.

Alison & Ben in 'Knocked Up'

If these two didn't have a baby, they never would've had a second date. Alison is a very driven woman, and driven women can't date lazy guys. It only ends in tears and frustration.

Bruce & Selina in 'The Dark Knight Rises'

This probably comes down to the fact that Anne Hathaway is no Michelle Pfeiffer, but this couple is a dud.
