Robert Pattinson and Jimmy Kimmel had a good laugh about a sick scene Pattinson claimed he was asked to do for his new movie, "Good Time." PETA issued a statement thanking the actor for refusing to actually do the scene with the dog, and for speaking up so they can now investigate what happened.

UPDATE: Robert Pattinson later issued a statement to clarify that he was joking about the director and trainer really pushing him to do the scene: "The story I told on Jimmy Kimmel last night seems to have spiraled out of control. What didn't come across is that this was supposed to be a joke. No one at all expected or assumed that anything like that would happen on the 'Good Time' set. We are all huge animal lovers and would obviously never do anything to harm an animal. Everyone involved in 'Good Time' are amazing professionals and have come together to make a movie that I'm extremely proud of. I feel embarrassed that in the moment, I was trying to make Jimmy laugh, only to create confusion and a false impression."

Original post:

Pattinson was just on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" to promote his new crime thriller, which got a six-minute standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival. After a few minutes, Kimmel argued, that extended applause would probably get awkward, but Pattinson pointed out that plenty of films have been booed at Cannes, so they were happy -- once they realized what was happening.

However, one scene that didn't make the final cut of the movie, but will be on the eventual DVD/Blu-ray, shows Pattinson's character sexually gratifying a dog. Yeah. Ew.

Let Pattinson tell the story:

Robert Pattinson: "There was initially this scene -- I don't think I should say this -- but like, my character Connie has this affinity with dogs. And he thinks he is a dog in a previous life, and he thinks he has control over animals. There's this one scene which we shot, which was basically, there's a drug dealer who busts into the room, and I was sleeping with the dog and basically giving the dog a hand-job."

Jimmy Kimmel [laughing]: "That's what you, the actor Robert Pattinson, were doing or that's what the character was doing?"

Pattinson: "It was a character thing. I asked the trainer, because the director was like, 'Just do it for real, man! Don't be a p*ssy!' And the dog's owner was like, 'Well, he's a breeder. I mean, you can. You just gotta massage the inside of his thighs.' I was like, 'Just massage the inside of his thighs?' I didn't agree to do the real one, so we made a fake red rocket."

Kimmel: "You made a fake dog penis. Wow, Hollywood is a great place. It really is. If you get a chance to send your kids to film school..."

Pattinson: "It was fun. It'll be on the DVD, actually."

Both guys kept cracking up through the story, so ... apparently that's funny? At least he didn't actually do it for real. That director, though.

Watch the clip:
PETA appreciated that Pattinson spoke up and refused to do the scene as written; here's a statement sent to E! News:

"PETA depends on actors and crew members to come forward when they see mistreatment, whether it involves a dog who is being forced into churning water on the set of 'A Dog's Purpose' or an A-list actor who is being asked to molest his canine co-star. Robert Pattinson is our kind of guy (and everyone's who has a heart) for refusing to masturbate a dog—which is like child molestation—and for talking about it so that the public can see that once again animal trainers' top priority is money and animals' interests and well-being are often ignored. PETA is currently investigating whether the law was broken in this instance."

"Good Time" opens in select theaters on August 11.
