Following the tragic shootings in Dallas, USA is postponing the premiere of the new Shooter."

The series is based on the Stephen Hunter novel and subsequent 2007 film (starring Mark Wahlberg), and centers on an ex-Marine sniper who returns to action when he learns of a plot to kill the president.

The first episode opens with sounds of gunfire and images of real-life gun violence. In light of the recent deaths of five Dallas police officers, at the hands of heavily-armed Army veteran, USA decided to push the premiere for a week.

"In light of recent tragic events and out of respect for the victims, their families and our viewers, we have decided to postpone the premiere date for the upcoming USA Network series 'Shooter' to July 26," the network said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.

Sadly, this isn't the only recent instance of a network holding a show due to tragic current events. TNT delayed the season 3 premiere of "The Last Ship" due to a nightclub shooting scene in the wake of the Orlando attack.
