Zac Efron Will Take the Lead in TV Adaptation of 1987’s ‘Angel Heart’
The new series, which Efron is aiming to star in and executive produce, would, like them movie, adapt William Hjortsberg’s 1978 novel ‘Fallen Angel.’

Movies being turned into TV series is nothing new at this point, though usually it involves the small screen version adapting the same source material as the cinematic original.
The latest film getting the TV treatment is 1987 mystery thriller ‘Angel Heart,’ which starred Mickey Rourke and Robert De Niro. Per Deadline, Zac Efron is aboard to star in and produce the show for A24.
Zach Baylin, who wrote ‘King Richard’ and recently created the Netflix series ‘Black Rabbit,’ will write and run the show.
What’s the story of ‘Angel Heart’?

Based on William Hjortsberg's 1978 novel ‘Fallen Angel’ and its sequel, ‘Angel’s Inferno', the series will follow a down-and-out NYC paparazzi, who makes his living finding and photographing people who don’t want to be found, who is hired by a mysterious man to find a missing woman.
But the deeper he digs to find her, the more it looks like a group of powerful elites, and maybe something supernatural, are covering up the disappearance.
The 1987 movie featured possibly the least subtle character name in movie history, as De Niro plays a character named Louis Cyphre.
But given that it also features Lisa Bonet, we’d suggest casting Zoe Kravitz for the family link.
What else is Zac Efron working on?
Efron recently finished work on ‘Famous,’ director Jody Hill’s latest film.
It’s described a provocative Los Angeles-set thriller that explores the dark side of celebrity. Efron plays both an overzealous fan, Lance Dunkquist, and a Hollywood heartthrob, James Jansen.
He’s also shot ‘Judgment Day,’ a new comedy co-starring Will Ferrell.
