Season 1 Plot
For nine long years, Crown Prince Harald and the commoner Sonja Haraldsen fight for the right to marry, but the choice is not theirs to make. The constitution states that a prince cannot marry without the king’s permission. If Harald chooses a wife without royal blood, the Norwegian monarchy risks collapsing. Harald and Sonja stand together, defying the government, the press, and the Norwegian people – all for love.

1. Duty
Crown Prince Harald graduates from military academy, but his reputation needs repair. King Olav introduces him to princesses, fuelling speculation about his future queen. While rumours swirl about a match with Greece’s Princess, Harald’s attention is drawn to a commoner, Sonja Haraldsen, leaving the press and royal circles buzzing.
2. Love
While Harald studies at Oxford, King Olav, grieving Crown Princess Märtha, hosts a birthday party filled with princesses. But Harald longs for Sonja and his friends. Tension rises as Sonja, watching her friends start families, urges Harald to seek his father’s permission to marry, challenging royal tradition and their secret love.
3. An Unnatural Way of Living
The press hunts for royal gossip, while Sonja fears losing herself if she joins the Royal Family. Queen Elizabeth pressures King Olav to address Harald's choice, as Harald battles between love and duty. With tensions high and rumours swirling, Harald delivers an ultimatum: only the King can decide their fate.
4. Father or King
King Olav seeks counsel from a divided government, as many Norwegians support Harald and Sonja’s marriage, but fear it will break the constitution. Harald feels he’s defying the law, while Sonja struggles with following her heart amid public unrest. Faced with pressure from all sides, King Olav must make a difficult decision.
