Restorations Plot
In March 2009 BBC Four showed the 30-minute programme episode from 1964 featuring the quartet of pianist Dave Brubeck, introduced by Slim Gaillard, with footage restored and re-edited. Numbers included saxophonist Paul Desmond's "Take Five", the first jazz record to sell over one million copies.

1. Oscar Peterson [Restored]
Flora Purin introduces a restored and re-edited version of a session by jazz pianist Oscar Peterson from October 1964.
2. The Dave Brubeck Quartet [Restored]
Steve Race introduces the legendary Dave Brubeck Quartet in a restored and re-edited 1964 programme, featuring Paul Desmond on saxophone, Gene Wright on bass, Joe Morello on drums and Brubeck on piano. Songs include Take 5, the first jazz record to sell over one million copies.
3. Dizzy Gillespie Quintet [Restored]
In a restored and re-edited version of the 1960s jazz programme, Neneh Cherry introduces a session by trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie accompanied by Rudy Collins, Christopher White, Kenny Barren and James Moody.

1964 performance by the Modern Jazz Quartet, featuring members John Lewis, Milt Jackson, Percy Heath, and Connie Kay with a guest appearance from Laurindo Almeida.
5. The Thelonious Monk Quartet [Restored]
1960s concert featuring jazz pianist Thelonious Monk and his quartet of Ben Riley, Larry Gayles, and Charlie Rouse.
6. Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers [Restored]
1965 concert featuring Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, one of America's most dynamic jazz groups.
7. BBC Four Compilation [Restored]
Vintage 1960s British jazz from the BBC's archives, presented by Steve Race. Featured performers include John Dankworth and Cleo Laine, Victor Feldman with Ronnie Scott, the Tubby Hayes Big Band, the Johnny Ross Quartet, Annie Ross with the Tony Kinsey Quintet and Bill Le Sage's Directions in Jazz.
