1. Nothing to Live For
Ward has been demoted to uniformed sergeant in a division. But he soon has other things to occupy his mind, as a murder accusation uncovers a secret in a family's past that leads to violence, bloodshed and danger for Kingdom and Ward.
2. A Case of Prejudice
Kingdom and Ward investigate a murder in the box-office of a theatre club, the clientele predominantly Black. It looks racially motivated, but the police treat it as a case of robbery leading to murder.
3. A Gathering of Dust
On a demolition site, the earth caves in and exposes a cellar, invisible on any plan. Inside is a skeleton, with an Army revolver close by. Was a murder committed many years ago?
4. Evidence of Character
When a girl is found murdered, a local man becomes the victim of village gossips. And when their vitriolic tongues drive the man to a desperate decision, the reason plants in Kingdom's mind a doubt about the wisdom of the law he serves.
5. Prove It
Bowers has been building a criminal empire along the lines set down by notorious names of the recent past; repeated attempts to nail him have failed. So when he becomes a likely suspect in the murder of a small-time crook, Kingdom and Ward lose no time in trying to put a case against him.
6. Shadow of a Deadbeat
Arthur and Daniel, two down-and-outs, are squatting in a condemned house. Finally, after a quarrel, Arthur dosses down in a basement car park between a block of flats. It is there that his dead body is discovered by a caretaker.

Kingdom leaves home in the small hours, and his wife is disturbed to see that he is armed. But that is nothing compared to her alarm when an intruder later enters her bedroom.

Twelve years ago, Thomas Stevens was hanged for murder, protesting his innocence to the last. A campaign committee, including Members of Parliament, is now bringing attention to this possible miscarriage of justice. When an MP is killed, Kingdom and Ward investigate.
9. Two Into One Will Go
Kingdom's enquirers into a stolen car racket leads him to the chief suspect. But too late to prevent a calculated murder from taking place.
10. The Money Game
When muggers snatch Audrey Miller's handbag, her shopping bag is left behind. £20,000 in forged notes is found inside, so Kingdom and Ward investigate.
11. We Do What We Can
When Donald Macey was released prison two years ago, Ward helped get him a job. Now his wife Jenny suspects he's mixing with villains, and pleads with Ward to stop him from returning to a life of crime.
12. Hoax
When Ward and his mother fall victim to hoaxes, it's thought that the neighbours resent living near a policeman. But Kingdom and his team are preoccupied with investigating bomb scares – and the hoaxes may provide clues.
13. My Boy Robby?
A woman is walking her dog when it's almost run over by a speeding car. Chasing the animal, she makes a horrific discovery.
