Successful gynecologist Alex contends with an inopportunely delivery before her in-laws' renewal of vows. Alex's status as a favorite daughter-in-law puts pressure on a mutual but secret decision with her husband Carlo. The candor of Alex and Carlo's precocious son Chayi leads to an ill-timed revelation.

In a flashback, seeds of disagreement about when to have a child reveal a first crack in Alex and Carlo's marriage. Carlo and his new love Elisse struggle to keep their relationship under wraps. Alex goes condo-hunting and makes a false start in the romance department. Alex's mom and in-laws try to intervene, leading to disastrous results.

In a flashback, Carlo discovers that Alex is coming undone under the pressure of running a household. The couple's in-laws try to trace when Alex and Carlo's marriage began falling apart...and if they could have done anything. As Carlo does damage control with Elisse, Alex faces the reality of Elisse's growing bond with Chayi. As Alex's search for alternative living arrangements intensifies and she tries out modern dating for prospective romance, she finds both objectives intersecting. A scary incident with Chayi leads Alex to question her priorities.

In a flashback, the demands of Alex's work cause the couple to drift apart. Alex and Elisse finally meet. A frank conversation with their grandson causes Alex's parents to see the situation in a new light. Alex is forced to make a decision about her possible romance.

In a flashback, we witness Alex and Carlo's efforts to save their failing marriage...and its final disintegration. A family event at school brings Alex and Carlo face-to-face with society's judgmental attitudes. Alex confronts a major milestone as a single-again woman...and experiences more doubts. The in-laws make peace with Alex and Carlo's decision as the two families help Alex make a crucial transition.
