Tom Hanks's mother, Janet Marylyn Frager, has died, the actor confirmed on Tuesday. She was 84.

The Oscar winner revealed the sad news on his Instagram account, writing that his mother had passed away earlier that day. Frager's death came only a few days after Hanks celebrated his 60th birthday on July 9.

Hanks shared a glamorous old photo of Frager with his followers, captioning the vintage snap, "This beauty? My mom. She was the difference in many lives. Many lives. We say goodbye to her today. Safe crossing, mom! Hanx."

According to People, Frager was a former hospital worker.

Hanks's wife, actress Rita Wilson, also mourned her late mother-in-law, sharing her own remembrances on Instagram. Wilson posted a sweet recent photo of Hanks with his arm around Frager, and the message, "This wonderful lady gave birth to my husband, and three other children. Thank you for bringing my love into the world. She is at peace now."

In addition to Hanks, Frager leaves behind sons Jim and Larry, and daughter Sandra. Frager divorced Hanks's father, Amos, in 1961. Amos Hanks passed away in 1992.
