The 66-year-old African-American, the subject of the inspiring documentary A Man Named Pearl, doesn't have scissors where his hands should be, but he turns trees and bushes into topiary sculptures every bit as amazing as the ones Johnny Depp's character crafts in the Tim Burton film. show more

The African-American Edward Scissorhands of the South has arrived! Thank you Scott Galloway Brent Pierson for making this film. It is very rare to see positive films about African-Americans. Much thanks to Laemmle theaters for showing this movie in your theaters. How does a sharecropper's son go from picking cotton to turning adversity into something beyond the American dream? The answer is hard work, determination, and a lot of divine intervention. When the door closed on Pearl Fryar to living in his neighborhood of choice another door opened in the form of a neighborhood contest that would make him a mentor, pillar of the community, to national celebrity. The Lord does work in mysterious ways. There is something for everyone in this film. For those with a green thumb you will be amazed by what Pearl does with discarded plants. Artists will appreciate Pearl's junk art creations and his use of space, color, and form. Spiritual beings will immediately recognize how great each person can be when he/she aligns with true passion and refuses to be limited by negative people or thoughts. All you musicians will be tickled when you hear the head bobbing beats of smooth jazz, and soul stirring lyrics of gospel music. Of course, there is nothing better than spending time at the movies watching a well made film. For all you humans, you will be delighted when you see how one man goes from humble beginnings to making the world a better place. See A Man Named Pearl today.
