More persuasively still, Blackfish — an Indian name for orcas — argues against the very concept of quasiamusement parks like SeaWorld that turn giant creatures meant for the wild into hemmed-in, penned-up entertainers. show more
Very few of us would like to think about the physical and emotional toll that life in captivity takes on these magnificent creatures. Gabriela Cowperthwaite's powerful, heartbreaking, and beautifully crafted documentary, Blackfish, forces us to do just that. show more
It's disgusting and sad that people will always look to utilize animals as objects to use and abuse for the almighty dollar - dog fighting, puppy mills, zoos, animal acts, fur coats, hunting for fun, etc. All we can hope for is that the people who are currently abusing animals in horrible ways will be stopped (and punished) and in the future people will be more educated and compassionate. Until then, we'll continue to see this type of disgusting behavior. Makes me ashamed to be called "human".
Couldn't look away....a must see.
I feel this film shows both sides of the story in that it details how many professionals were ignorant that they were torturing the whales in captivity. A number of people say as much in the film. Their honesty is inspiring and I am sure it was very difficult for them to admit they were wrong.
