For some, the silver linings in Russell’s movies represent a failure to embrace darkness. I see them as a humanist’s act of resistance. That’s why American Hustle ranks with the year’s best movies. It gets under your skin. show more

American Hustle is David O. Russell's best film, one that finds him in that ideal zone of spontaneity and complete control. show more

With one of the best ensemble casts of any film this year, it's audacious, enthralling and uproarious. show more

High-energy comedy comes naturally to the filmmaker. He exults in free association, emotional riffs, in the craziness that underlies ostensibly rational behavior. The crosscurrents have crosscurrents in his films, but the current that carries everything along here is announced by the first strains of music from the screen: Duke Ellington's "Jeep's Blues," with one of the most exuberant passages in all of jazz. David O. Russell does buoyancy better than anyone. show more

Big hair. Big mouths. Big scams. Everything about American Hustle, David O. Russell's wild and woolly take on the late-'70s FBI sting operation code-named Abscam, is big. And the biggest thing of all is the love story that beats at the heart of this rollicking disco-era ensemble piece. show more

An infectious blast of funky jazz played by a terrific cast and a director at the top of their respective games. show more

While American Hustle succeeds when it comes to casting and characters, it’s dragged down by a murky and poorly-paced narrative. show more

The whole movie, a feast of ensemble wiles and stunning hair, is juicy, funny and alive. show more

As much as anything, the wildly entertaining ’70s flashback American Hustle is a triumph of style. show more

Loved this movie. Enjoyed every aspect. The cast, the acting, the music, the clothes and hair styles. Could really relate to the late 1970's era...Great acting and script . A must see movie . I intend to watch it again .!

Even though some of the nominations are well deserved, the story in general in not good. Especially the ending, it was weak. You can skip this one nothing new here.

An acting tour de force. Tremendously entertaining.

Well written with great acting. Considering the number of main characters in this film the depth of character development within a two+ hour movie was a marvel.

I can't believe people are bashing this movie. I thought it was awesome. Some comment say it was way too long. they should tune into some Disney flicks.

OMG! The storyline was good, but this flick was waayyy too long! Never been one to covet violence/sex in a good flick, but this one could use a little of both. Actors were great, just too long - life's too short to sit in this movie for 2.5+ hours!

It was a very good movie. The story line great, acting superb, and hustle was a surprise. Jennifer was beautiful, fascinating, and convincing.

Great acting and J.Law was funny but not much else. If you\'re in the mood for a time killer then this is your choice. If you want bang for your buck, go see ANYTHING else. I caught a few Z\'s about 30 minutes in. Will somehow win some \"artsy\" award for acting but again.... not much more. 2*= generous

All of the actors in this movie, gave a phenomenal performance. I question however, the glamourization of bad, corrupt behavior. The moral of this story is that corrupt politicians are really good guys who want to help their community?? And that scam artists are good decent people?? What happened to the Hollywood that endeavored to pursue justice and honesty; to give our young people a lesson on ethical living??
