Plot Summary
Huw Morgan (Roddy McDowall), the academically inclined youngest son in a proud family of Welsh coal miners, witnesses the tumultuous events of his young life during a period of rapid social change. At the dawn of the 20th century, a miners' strike divides the Morgans: the sons demand improvements, and the father (Donald Crisp) doesn't want to rock the boat. Meanwhile, Huw's eldest sister, Angharad (Maureen O'Hara), pines for the new village preacher, Mr. Gruffydd (Walter Pidgeon).

John ford made some great films, but this is his masterpiece. It beat out Citizen Kane for the best picture Oscar, and rightly so. Why some people think that Citizen Kane is the best movie ever made is beyond my understanding. How Green Was My Valley is a perfect film in every respect, and is perhaps the greatest film ever made. I can't think of a better one, and I have seen all the great films, foreign and domestic. Ford put a lot of love into making this film, and it comes to life for the viewer.
