I first saw "Kalifornia" when it first hit pay cable (probably HBO) way back in the mid-90s and was absolutely mesmerized by the performance of a then practically-unkown ... Brad Pitt as Early Grace. I knew from early in the film this actor was destined to be A MAJOR STAR! I believe, chronologically, he'd also already had his small part in "Thelma & Louise" at this point, but he was THE star of this movie. A captivating performance by Juliette Lewis as a very sad sort of person who needs love so badly she holds onto even what she gets from the psychopathic Grace was helped along by equally sound performances by David Duchovny as the unsuspecting writer who has them "sharing his expenses" as he takes a cross-country trip to research the sites of famous serial murders for a book he's working on while his girlfriend, played aptly by Michelle Forbes, takes photos for the book -- all the while unaware of just who and what their male ride-sharer is. I don't understand the low ratings for the movie and have never understood why it wasn't a big hit (except maybe ************** a bit of a downer). If a studio could AFFORD this same cast today to make this same movie, I think it would be a BLOCKBUSTER! To me, this is a thriller classic! Jeff Hayes Spartanburg, SC Full Review
