    Mick LaSalle San Francisco Chronicle

Casadesus infuses Margueritte with a lilting quality, underscored by the sadness of someone who knows she is the last person standing and inhabits an alien world. show more

If you could also use some time off, try his gentle new comedy. show more

An appealing coming-of-middle-age comedy, My Afternoons With Margueritte exhibits a pleasantly light touch even when dealing with some fairly weighty issues. show more

Depardieu's days as a leading man might be over, but he has a bright future in quirky roles like Germain. show more

The film isn't about the actor's intelligence. It's about his emotional radiance. show more

The larger-than-life actor is as emblematic of his country as Tom Hanks is of ours, and My Afternoons With Margueritte is his "Forrest Gump." Only better. show more

Germain's bonhomie with the bistro regulars has the feel of a TV comedy pilot, which is more than can be said of the monologues he speaks to his cat, one on the inadequacies of the dictionary. show more

It is a predictable, undernourished love story. We never quite learn why Margueritte feels so close to Germain or why he bothers with her. Characters appear and disappear, without much difference. show more

The film is leisurely paced, as many French films are, and not much actually happens, but as a character study, it feels true, and ultimately moving. show more

Great feelings brought out by this gem of a film... Depardieux and all the others in the cast do a fantastic job - thoroughly French....A must see if you have feelings.

Very touching movie full of richness. Wish we could make movies like this in the USA.

THe best of the French way to tell a story. Relationships unfold slowly, delicately, and we see the people open up and blossom. The film is a positive statement on the ability of people to change and interact with others. There is no excitement, no violence, no action,it is just a beautiful story about changing relationships. Five stars. Anna Belle
