    Amy Biancolli San Francisco Chronicle

An arty, ruminative and slow-paced film that's being marketed as a big ol' alien-invasion flick. Just don't expect an invasion flick. show more

    Joe Morgenstern Wall Street Journal

What brings Monsters down from its extremely low perch is a conspicuous lack of monstrosity. show more

    Steven Rea Philadelphia Inquirer

Monsters, like a serpent eating its own tail, comes back on itself in ways that haunt, and hurt. show more

    Michael Rechtshaffen The Hollywood Reporter

Although the tentative performances of his two human leads proves less satisfying, and the story's not-so-underlying sociological context can be hard to miss -- it takes place along the U.S.-Mexico border -- the overall picture still impresses. show more

Wait a second, is this a horror movie or an episode of The Hills? show more

    Bob Mondello NPR

Edwards is a wizard with his laptop's effects program. The squiddy things he conjures up look like the real deal - thoroughly creepy and a gazillion feet tall. Too bad his screenwriting software didn't have an equivalently impressive plot-twisting algorithm to get him to the final fade. show more

    Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times

Monsters holds our attention ever more deeply as we realize it's not a casual exploitation picture. show more

Jennie Punter The Globe and Mail (Toronto)

With Monsters, Edwards transcends the special-effects auteur label, creating a memorable sci-fi story in which the hero and heroine are true equals in the adventure. How's that for an alien concept? show more

    Michael Phillips Chicago Tribune

Monsters is a sharp little low-fi monster movie operating from a tantalizing premise. show more

    James Berardinelli ReelViews

Monsters works not because of its representation of alien creatures or its somewhat derivative back story but because of the atypical manner in which it approaches the character-based narrative. show more

It should be called escape from Mexico. It is like Jaws but with no shark at all. Boring and a waste of time, money, and popcorn.

OMG...this is the worst movie I've ever seen! Never do you actually get to see the monsters in detail. I think there are probably only 3 monster scenes in the whole movie! A lot of it is shot in the dark...so dark you can't even make out what you are even seeing! I feel like suing for false advertising. This is not a monster movie at all. Do not waste your time or money...don't even ***************** So bad.

SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!! this is a dog, 90% of the movie is just 2 people tring to get across to the safe zone, which you never really get too see the monsters until the very end for about 1 min then thier gone. Reminded me of Cloverfield(another dog), wait till it hits TV and save your money.
