I saw this movie when I was 12 or 13. It had a strong impact on me even though at the time, the incidence of Autism was quite low. I remember how completely closed off Ruan was (as portrayed in the ... film by identical twin brothers). It was truly chilling to see the child rock and spin plates. This was my image of Autism for many years, until I saw "Rainman" many years later. What captivated me the most about this film, however, was the outpouring of love the parents had for their lost child. It has been nearly 30 years since this film first aired on television. Since then, the Kaufman family, who this film is about, has established their own treatment program; the "Son-Rise" program, which they market to families with autistic children. The program appears to share much in common with the more modern treatment program known as "Floortime" which was developed by Dr. Stanley Greenspan, M.D. I would love to see a DVD made available of the original TV movie. Hundreds of thousands of families either affected by Autism or not, would love to be able to own this dramatic story of love and hope. Full Review
