After the Great Chicago Fire, and motivated by impending fatherhood, Daniel Pardway (Lionel Barrymore) opens a small store called the Bazaar. The store expands, becoming continuously more successful, and Daniel's wife, Abigail (Ninetta Sunderland), continues to have children. But, after giving birth to her fourth child, Abigail dies, leaving Daniel to raise them all on his own. As he gets older, Daniel must choose which of his children, if any, will run the Bazaar after he is gone.
