  • Doesn't allow the story's considerable nostalgia and sentimentality to overwhelm it. show more

  • A bit of a throwback, a nostalgic, easygoing Capra-esque comedy that should appeal to both youthful and older audiences. show more

  • Like Mickey Rourke in "The Wrestler," Malkovich plays a star long past his glory days in The Great Buck Howard, but continuing to do the only thing he knows. The tone of the two films couldn't be less alike, but the story arc of the central characters graphs the same. show more

Go see this film. It's a very tender and sweet story with alot of twists and turns and a terrific cast. It just borders onthe brink of shmaltz but doesn't cross it. Sweet little ditty of a film.

This was a very entertaining movie. John Malovich was perfect as the quirky mentalist who did what he did because he took great joy in giving his audience the best show possible. Everybody shoud care this much about whatever their task at hand. Colin Hanks ended up learning more about his himself and life from Buck Howard than he ever could have if he would have stayed in aw school. Tom Hanks was very convincing as Colin's dad (hehe). Props to all the B-level entertainers who care more for their audiences than those bigshots who may be exceptionally gifted but who could care less. PS: if you see Buck Howard give him a fist, don't shhake his hand.
