    Ruthe Stein San Francisco Chronicle

Given his built-in appeal, Perry has the opportunity to broaden the subject matter of so-called black movies. He takes a stab at it in "Girls," but he could do so much better. show more

    Carrie Rickey Philadelphia Inquirer

Happily, Perry's strength as a filmmaker is that he genuinely loves his actors, and they love him back. What his movies lack in exposition they make up for in performances. show more

Elizabeth Weitzman New York Daily News

Subtlety has never been Perry's strength, but his previous films balanced the sermonizing with good humor and sincerity. Perhaps next time, he'll ease up on the lectures, and bring back the love. show more

    Luke Sader The Hollywood Reporter

Daddy's Little Girls may be heavy-handed and drearily predictable, but it also should connect with its core audience as solidly as Perry's previous efforts did, even if the drama is frequently just as over the top as its predecessors. show more

    Kyle Smith New York Post

Billed as a comedy about a single dad with three girls, the movie is essentially another sudser about the plight of upscale black women in Atlanta. show more

    Maitland McDonagh TV Guide

There are fewer laughs and more lectures -- but there's plenty of sass and soul in between. show more

    Wesley Morris Boston Globe

Perry shelves his crowd-pleasing Madea character and aspires for the impossible mix of 1950s social melodrama, gospel-inflected public service announcement, soap opera, R&B video, girl-centric sitcom on the CW, and any episode of "Good Times," featuring Janet Jackson's oft-affronted Penny. Were Perry a visual director or a logical, patient screenwriter, that hybrid would count as a feat of singular ambition. Instead, it seems like the product of an abbreviated attention span. show more

    The Globe and Mail (Toronto)

Whether because of Madea's on-screen absence or the abilities of the two lead actors, Daddy's Little Girls is still a step up for Perry, boasting moments of charm that transcend the usual mess. show more

  • 67
    Austin Chronicle

Unflinchingly addressing issues of class and race, Perry juggles multiple plot lines and the result emerges as (dare I say?) a surprising mix of Frank Capra and Douglas Sirk. show more

    Lisa Schwarzbaum Entertainment Weekly

This latest market-savvy bit of circuit preaching is less cartoonish than Perry's previous big-tent revival meetings. show more

The movie was a movie that made you think of love in another way. You can find love even when you are not looking for it. I LOVED the movie and would pay more than once to watch it. I want to send congrats to all the stars in the movie. I want to send a special congrats to Idris Elba because I think he is a very talented actor. I am a very big fan and I hope that you excel in everything he does.

Its all smoke and mirrors. One chase after another---totally predictable. Noise and more noise. The director,Paul Greengrass, should have studied the 1st, (BourneIdentity), which had heart and a feeling of intimacy; instead he serves up this loud mess.

I think Daddys Little Girls was the best movie I have seen. It gave a happy ending without making their lives look perfect. I like the twists and the cast was picked perfectly they did a great job. Unions funny remarks kept me laughing and it didnt hurt that Elba's was good looking. I really loved this movie and it would be a good movie for teens and adults to watch. i give it 5 stars!!-HayzelEyes.-

This was by far Tyler Perry's BEST movie! I like how he didn't candy coat the world he lived in. It was very well done. I do NOT know WHAT the critics are talking about at all - they live in Hollywoodland - this movie was very GOOD - well acted, well cast and well done. AND my favorite part was the Inspirational sceene in church (to let people see that God will always come thru for you when you are doing the right thing (fighting for his children).Louis Gossett was great too! I just loved it! P.S. I am a white woman and I love Tyler Perry movies. I and think he should do a "sitcom" with his Madea character on TV.
