It's a bitch telling a coming-of-age story minus clichés and sappiness. So Youth in Revolt, with Michael Cera in his best performance yet, is a small miracle. show more

A clever and often riotous burst of cynicism that pushes some pretty questionable ideas. show more

Youth's screenplay, by Gustin Nash, is generally witty. show more

    Joe Morgenstern Wall Street Journal

Youth in Revolt is basically an absurdist ramble, but a terrifically likable ramble. show more

    Steven Rea Philadelphia Inquirer

Some tacky animated sequences notwithstanding, Youth in Revolt is smart, cool and frequently hysterical. show more

While Cera is charming enough to keep us watching, he's never allowed to cut loose -- even though that's supposed to be the whole point of the movie. show more

    Sheri Linden The Hollywood Reporter

The collision of adolescent hormones and parental folly, hardly new cinematic territory, gets a bracing absurdist slant in Youth in Revolt. show more

    Calvin Wilson St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Bursting with smart dialogue, surprising situations and humor that springs from richly imagined characters. show more

    Kyle Smith New York Post

An improbable but hilarious combine of losin’-it comedies and the rarefied, Europhile air of the Cinema du Twee. show more

One of the secrets of Youth in Revolt is that Nick seems bewildered by his own desires and strategies. He knows how he feels, he knows what he wants, but he'd need a map to get from A to B. It's his self-abasing modesty that makes the movie work. Here, you feel, is a movie character who would find more peace on the radio. show more

This film is witty and charming, with quite a few laughs. Sadly, I believe an intellect similar in scope to that of the characters within may be needed for proper viewing. Its more quip and ************, not a fart joke vulgarity feast.

One of the most underrated and original comedies in recent years.

The film has great potential but just seems to like there were too many industry folks tinkering with it and could never agree on a single strong focus. Pity since Cera and Justin Long are always appealing - but this movie was also kept on the shelf for 18 months and then released in January which is usually quite telling.

agreed with previous reviewers (well except for srarstyles)! I didn't find this movie to be terribly funny in fact I found it to be quite intolerable. Please save your money for a funnier and/or better film (may i suggest Avatar if you haven't seen it).
