Series Summary
The Duques, a large Cuban-American family, face pressures as they run their South Florida rum and sugar business. Patriarch Pancho is offered a tidy deal by his competitors, who want him to sell thousands of acres. If he sells, Pancho can focus on the family rum business, a prospect his son Frank finds attractive. Alex, Pancho's adopted son, urges Pancho to protect the family legacy, creating another clash between woman-chasing Frank and family guy Alex, who is married to Pancho's daughter, Isabel.

  • A terrifically cast, intriguing series. show more

  • It's a big soapy epic that allows you to turn off your brain late at night, but it ultimately carries no gravitas, minority hiring or not. As long as we're clear on that, there's nothing wrong for applauding what the series gets right, given the constraints of the genre. show more

  • The all-star cast, which includes Hector Elizondo as the patriarch of the Duque family and Jimmy Smits as the adopted son who inherits principal control of the old man's sugar cane business in a contentious handover, bring authenticity to what is otherwise a hysterical, Dynasty-style vision of Cuban-American experience set in and around kitschy Miami. show more
