The first trailer for "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" just arrived with a rebel yell and some welcome throwbacks to the OG era.

"Good Morning America" debuted the teaser trailer for the first standalone story in the "Star Wars" universe, which stars , , , , , , , and ,and hits theaters in December.

Felicity Jones's Jyn takes center stage, like Daisy Ridley's Rey in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." We hear a younger Mon Mothma describe Jyn as on her own from age 15, reckless, aggressive, undisciplined. "This is a rebellion, isn't it?" Jyn quips. "I rebel."

Damn right, she does, and she accepts her mission: A major weapons test is imminent, and they need to know what it is and destroy it. This story is set just before the events of Episode IV, "A New Hope," aka the first movie in the series, so we the audience have more information than the characters and know the mission is to steal the plans for the Death Star, which will be destroyed ... eventually.

The trailer is punctuated by a literally alarming sound (which will be in your head all day), and we hear the voice of Forest Whitaker's character ask, "What will you do when they catch you? What will you do if they break you? If you continue to fight, what will you become?" Intriguing. There's a rumor that James Earl Jones will return for Darth Vader in this, but we'll have to wait and see.

In early January 2016, "Rogue One" topped Fandango's poll of the most anticipated movies of the year, beating "Finding Dory," "Batman v Superman," "Jason Bourne," and "Captain America: Civil War."
