The promo for Season 7, Episode 4, "The Spoils of War," showed a dragon riding into action, and HBO.com posted the photo above to tease the August 6 episode. That's the same pic Entertainment Weekly previewed a while back, with director Matt Shakman teasing, "The dragons this year are the size of 747s. Drogon is the biggest of the bunch — his flame is 30-feet in diameter!"
Shakman is listed as the director of both Episode 4 and Episode 5. He's the only director doing two episodes this year. Entertainment Weekly confirmed Episode 4's dragon battle in a not-much tease during its Spoiler Room roundup:
Give me some Game of Thrones. — Robert
Here's a tiny tidbit: The big battle with dragons you've been waiting for is finally happening.
The first official Season 7 trailer included a shot of a dragon flying over a field of warriors, looking like Dany's Dothraki army. Putting two and two together, it looks like Team Dany may get revenge on Jaime Lannister for his surprise Episode 3 move at Highgarden.
Jaime appears to be taking money to bring back to Queen Cersei to appease the Iron Bank of Braavos. But that shocked look on the faces of Jaime and Bronn in the Episode 4 photos...
... may be a preview of Dany's own surprise move to attack the Lannister army -- and take the money? Perhaps. That would put Cersei in a sticky situation with the Iron Bank. Oh well. Those are "The Spoils of War"!
The Episode 4 promo also teased the latest Stark reunion, with Arya Stark right outside of Winterfell; Theon coming face to face with Jon Snow for the first time since Season 1; and Littlefinger's catspaw dagger making a re-appearance, which should be watched carefully. So Episode 4 sounds like a Big Deal in capital letters, even beyond a dragon battle.
And let's not assume this dragon battle is the only one we'll see in the seven-episode season. It's just the only one that was promoted ahead of time.
"Game of Thrones" Season 7, Episode 4, "The Spoils of War" airs Sunday, Aug. 6 at 9 p.m. on HBO.
