As if there was any doubt, Jennifer Lawrence is seriously dedicated to her craft -- so much so that she "kind of threw a rib out" while filming "mother!."

Director Darren Aronofsky, who is also Lawrence's boyfriend, described the incident while touting his leading lady's talent in the most recent issue of New York magazine. He highlighted how much she pushed herself, especially while filming the climax of the movie.

"I think she hyperventilated and also kind of threw a rib out," he said. "She really went there. The producers were freaking out. We had to sort of calm it down and then go for it again."

Apparently, Lawrence took it easier before filming began, leaving Aronofsky initially unsure of exactly how her performance would turn out. He didn't need to worry, though, because when it was time, she was ready for the taxing scenes.

"During the rehearsals, she was very, very relaxed. She was present, but never really pushed herself," he said. "It wasn't appropriate for me to push that, even though I wasn't sure how she was going to do it. And I really didn't get to know the character until we started shooting, and she showed up."

We can't imagine what exactly she was filming that required so much effort, but we know it is bound to be disturbing. Aronofsky's past work includes "Black Swan," "Requiem for a Dream," and more, so we believe his warning that audiences should expect a "very intense ride." In "mother!," Lawrence plays half of a couple whose life takes a horrifying turn after a visit from unexpected guests.

The actress might not be the only one this film makes hyperventilate.

"Mother!" opens Sept. 15.
