This comedy available on VOD, Digital, and DVD on January 9, follows an average Joe named Bob (Gregory Lay), whose obsession to be famous lands him in a mental hospital. When a patient claims Bin Laden is still alive, Bob escapes with a band of misfits in a last-ditch effort to get Bin Laden and the fame he so deeply desires. Jack Black stars as real-life Polish-American polka band leader Jan Lewan in Netflix's comedy "The Polka King," which is based on the 2009 documentary about Lewan called "The Man Who Would Be Polka King." Both the film and documentary are available for Netflix streaming on January 12. The movie costars Jenny Slate, Jason Schwartzman, and Jacki Weaver. Watch both trailers.

Claire Holt and Mandy Moore star in this horror thriller, which has a sequel coming out called (wait for it) "48 Meters Down." This first film will be on Netflix January 10.
"Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie"
Captain Underpants is ready for Netflix streaming on January 10. The animated family comedy features an all-star vocal cast, led by Kevin Hart, Ed Helms, Nick Kroll, Thomas Middleditch, Jordan Peele, and Kristen Schaal.
"Colony" Season 2
Josh Holloway and Sarah Wayne Callies return for a second season of desperate decisions and ethical dilemmas as aliens colonize L.A. in this underrated USA Network sci-fi series. The 13 episodes of Season 2 will be ready for streaming on January 12. There will be a Season 3, so use this time to catch up and prepare.

"Philip K. Dick's Electric Dreams" (Amazon Original Series)
What a great time we live in, with so many sci-fi options -- including "Black Mirror" and this new Amazon Original series. "Electric Dreams" is based on short stories by the legend Philip K. Dick, exploring humanity from 5 to 5,000 years in the future, and questioning what it means to be human in unique and fantastical worlds: "With 10 standalone episodes and a sweeping all-star cast, each epic story will explore fantasy, humanity, and a future we've only begun to imagine." This documentary -- directed by 89-year-old first-time filmmaker Joan Kron (formerly Allure Magazine and New York Magazine editor) has picked up Audience Awards at a couple of film festivals. It'll arrive on VOD and all digital platforms on January 9. (Fun fact: This is also Kron's 90th birthday week). The documentary takes a comedic point of view on women and plastic surgery, as told by female comedians including Jackie Hoffman, Emily Askin, Judy Gold, Julie Halston, Lisa Lampanelli, Kathy Griffin, Margaret Cho, Giulia Rozzi, and many others.
The Jigsaw Killer returns in this horror film also known as "Saw 8." The twisted action arrives on Digital January 9, then 4K, Blu-ray, DVD, and On Demand on January 23. Special features include a seven-part documentary; audio commentary with producers Mark Burg, Oren Koules, and Peter Block; and "The Choice is Yours: Exploring the Props" featurette.
TV Worth Watching
"Major Crimes" Series Finale (Tuesday on TNT at 9 p.m.)
This is it. The final episode of "Major Crimes" airs on Tuesday. Season 6, Episode 13 is called "By Any Means: Part 4", and it has this synopsis from TNT: "In the series finale, Lt. Tao, (Michael Paul Chan) is stuck in a room with a potential bomb. Provenza (G.W. Bailey) finally identifies the real Ms. Bechtal, and Major Crimes comes face-to-face for the very last time with Phillip Stroh (Billy Burke)."
"America's Next Top Model" Cycle 24 (Tuesday on VH1 at 8 p.m.)
You wanna be on top? Smize with Tyra Banks as she returns to the flawsome franchise January 9 on VH1. This cycle has an all-female cast of "every shape, every size, every color," and supposedly all ages. But, in reality, most of the models are still in their early 20s with only two in their 30s and the oldest at 34.
"Alone Together" Premiere (Wednesday on Freeform at 8:31 p.m.)
SNL's The Lonely Island guys produced this new comedy airing after "grown-ish" on Wednesdays. Esther Povitsky and Benji Aflalo co-created and executive produced the series (along with Eben Russell), which follows platonic best friends Esther and Benji, who want nothing more than to be accepted by the vain and status-obsessed culture of L.A.

Several TV shows came back from winter break last week, but a few more are returning this week, including "The Brave," "The Good Doctor," "The Fosters," and "This Is Us."
