During the Warner Bros panel at San Diego Comic Con today, a special trailer was unveiled for its offbeat superhero film “Shazam!,” technically part of the DC Extended Universe but seemingly tonally different from the dark and dreary movies that have come before it. The movei takes a deliberately comedic tone, and the trailer makes it seem like the eventual film will be a superhero version of the Tom Hanks movie “Big.” Color us intrigued!

The film stars Asher Angel as Billy Batson, a kid who can transform into superhero Shazam (Zachary Levi) by uttering his name. The cast also includes Mark Strong, Djimon Hounsou, and Jack Dylan Grazer and was directed by David F. Sandberg. It looks like a ton of fun.

“Shazam!” opens on April 5th, 2019.
