Chucky wants to play again.

Syfy has acquired the development rights to a potential series based on the deranged doll character first introduced in the 1988 horror movie "Child's Play." Franchise creator Don Mancini is attached as writer and executive producer.

The red-headed doll possessed by the soul of dead serial killer Charles Lee Ray launched a franchise of six additional films, most recently 2017's "Cult of Chucky." A reboot of the original is slated for release this June 21, starring Aubrey Plaza and Brian Tyree Henry.

“I’ve long wanted to bring Chucky to television and Syfy is the perfect network for us,” said Mancini. “The show will be a fresh take on the franchise, allowing us to explore Chucky’s character with a depth that is uniquely afforded by the television series format, while staying true to the original vision that has terrorized audiences for over three decades now.”
