Angus Bickerton Biography

Angus Bickerton is a British visual effects supervisor whose career spans more than three decades, with roughly twenty years serving as a VFX supervisor. Over the course of his career, he has contributed to high‑profile films and TV series, including Lost in Space, Band of Brothers, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Total Recall and The Monuments Men, among many others.

Bickerton gained particular prominence as the visual effects supervisor on HBO’s House of the Dragon, the Game of Thrones prequel. He was hired in 2020 during the height of the COVID‑19 pandemic, charged with assembling and managing a global visual effects team, and overseeing the design and creation of the series’ dragons. He led a staff of dozens and coordinated nearly four months of dragon asset design for each creature, with hundreds of VFX artists working across England, Germany, Canada and beyond.

His work on House of the Dragon earned him multiple major accolades. He received a nomination for a Primetime Emmy Award in 2023 for Outstanding Special Visual Effects in a Season or a Movie, credited as visual effects supervisor alongside his team. At the 2023 British Academy Television Craft Awards, he, together with team members Nikeah Forde, Asa Shoul, Mike Dawson and the facilities MPC and Pixomondo, won the BAFTA Television Craft Award for Best Special, Visual & Graphic Effects for House of the Dragon.

In addition, Bickerton and his team garnered a Visual Effects Society nomination at the 21st VES Awards in the category Outstanding Visual Effects in a Photoreal Episode for their work on the episode “The Black Queen” from House of the Dragon, recognising the team including Nikeah Forde, Sven Martin, Michael Bell and Michael Dawson.
