Carmen Cuba Biography

Carmen Cuba is a casting director. Cuba began her casting career in 1999, working with filmmaker Larry Clark on Bully and Ken Park. This early experience led to a long-standing collaboration with Oscar-winning director Steven Soderbergh, casting various projects from the experimental Bubble to 2023's Magic Mike's Last Dance. She has also collaborated with Ridley Scott on The Martian, Alien: Covenant, and All the Money in the World.

Her film credits include Leos Carax's Annette, Lana Wachowski's The Matrix Resurrections, Jane Campion's The Power of the Dog, and Jordan Peele's NOPE. In 2022, she worked on Pedro Almodóvar's first English-language film, Madonna's autobiographical feature, the directorial debuts of Zoë Kravitz and Finn Wolfhard, and Justin Simien's Haunted Mansion.

In television, Cuba has cast projects for acclaimed directors, including Soderbergh (Behind the Candelabra, The Knick), Luca Guadagnino (We Are Who We Are), Alex Garland (Devs), and Patty Jenkins (I Am the Night). She has also contributed to the celebrated series by Tarrell McCraney (David Makes Man), Tanya Saracho (Vida), Amy Seimetz (The Girlfriend Experience), Lena Waithe (The Chi), and Andrew Haigh (Looking).

Notably, she cast alongside the Duffer Brothers all four seasons of Stranger Things. In 2023, her television highlights include Swarm for Donald Glover and Janine Nabers, another Glover-led series, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Soderbergh's limited series Full Circle, the Star Wars series The Acolyte for Leslye Headland, and Marvel's limited series Wonder Man directed by Destin Cretton.

Cuba has been nominated for five Emmy Awards for Outstanding Casting, winning twice for Behind the Candelabra and Stranger Things.
