Dakis Biography

Vrasidas Charalambides (Greek: Βρασίδας Χαραλαμπίδης, Alexandria, Egypt, 26 August 1943 - Athens, 29 May 2022) artistically known as Dakis (Greek: Δάκης), was a Greek singer. In 1968 he recorded his first album in Greek entitled "Hello, thank you" with composer Kostas Xenakis and immediately followed by his first collaboration with Mimis Plessas and the timeless hits "So Many Summers" and "That Morning in Kifissia" where the audience's response quickly placed him among the most sought-after performers of that era.

He collaborated with Greek composers such as: Mimis Plessas, Yannis Spanos, George Katsaros, George Hatzinasios, Costas Hatzis, Robert Williams, Alexis Papadimitriou, George Manikas, Sakis Tsilikis, Haris Chalkitis, Vangelis Pitsiladis, George Krimizakis, Costas Xenakis, George Theofanous, Nikos Lavranos, Nikos Karvelas, Alekos Chrysovergis, George Theodosiadis, etc.

She had sung lyrics by songwriters such as Pythagoras, Lefteris Papadopoulos, Manos Eleftheriou, Dimitris Iatropoulos, Sotia Tsotou, Xenophontas Fileris, Thanos Sofos, Roni Sofou, etc. She had made many live appearances in entertainment venues such as: "Rex", "Diogenis Palace", "Neraida", "Fantasia", "Asteria", "Athinaia", "Ribas" and collaborated with Marinella, Kostas Hatzis, Yannis Parios, Harris Alexiou, Anna Vissi and others.

On an international level she had collaborated with the Rolling Stones, Charles Aznavour, Dalida, Milva, Joe Dassin, Sacha Distel and Demi Roussos, with whom she was cousins. He had participated in many theatrical performances, at the Vembo, Park, Kotopouli-Rex Theaters and elsewhere. He had also appeared in television shows and in Greek films such as Gorgones kai magkes, I theia mou i hippissa, etc.

He represented Greece at International Song Festivals, winning distinctions and awards. He had been at the forefront of Greek song since 1967. His discography consists of 39 LPs & CDs and 19 singles & 45s. His last recording was the CD titled “Moments” (MINOS 2008) by Mimis Plessas where Dakis sings in 7 languages. He died of cancer on May 29, 2022.
