In the 1930s, the baby of famed flier Charles Lindbergh is kidnapped and murdered, and the public is desperate to find the person who committed this infamous crime. So when a bit of evidence seems to point to German carpenter Bruno Hauptmann (Stephen Rea), the trial moves forward, despite the cries of innocence from him and his devoted wife, Anna (Isabella Rossellini). And with the corrupt legal system looking for someone to pin the blame on, the future begins to look bleak for Bruno.
Chili Palmer (John Travolta) is a Miami mobster who gets sent by his boss, the psychopathic "Bones" Barboni (Dennis Farina), to collect a bad debt from Harry Zimm (Gene Hackman), a Hollywood producer who specializes in cheesy horror films. When Chili meets Harry's leading lady (Rene Russo), the romantic sparks fly. After pitching his own life story as a movie idea, Chili learns that being a mobster and being a Hollywood producer really aren't all that different.
This film is a biographical examination of former U.S. President Richard Nixon (Anthony Hopkins). The non-chronological narrative explores Nixon's personal and professional life, touching on his youth, college years, and political triumphs and failures. Nixon is seen as a child born to austere Quaker parents, as a young attorney wooing his future wife, Pat (Joan Allen), and as an astute but dour politician. After finally becoming president, Nixon is embroiled in the infamous Watergate scandal.
