Earl Maddox (born Earl H. Maddox, September 27, 1957, in Augusta, Georgia; died March 17, 2013, in South Carolina) was an American actor and drummer, 5′ 11″ (180 cm) tall, nicknamed "Bubba." Coming from a musical family, he was a drummer in the Atlanta redneck underground scene before being discovered while playing with the band Slim Chance and the Convicts, which led to his first acting role in Mama Flora's Family (1998). He lived across Augusta, Columbia, Athens, Atlanta, Memphis, Los Angeles, and New Orleans, and accumulated over 50 credits in film, television, commercials, and music videos. He was cast in a role written for him in Django Unchained (2012, directed by Quentin Tarantino) but rectal cancer prevented him from performing it and ultimately ended his life at age 55. His most notable film credits include James in Parker (2013, with Jason Statham and Jennifer Lopez), Drug Dealer in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008, directed by David Fincher, with Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett), Angry Resident in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (2012, with Benedict Cumberbatch), Manager in Lay the Favorite (2012, with Bruce Willis), Man #2 in A Love Song for Bobby Long (2004, with Scarlett Johansson and John Travolta), and Barksdale (uncredited) in The Gift (2000, directed by Sam Raimi). On television he appeared in Treme (2010, HBO), Memphis Beat (2010, with Alfre Woodard), That '70s Show (1998, 2006), The X-Files (1993, 1997), and Star Trek: Voyager (1995, uncredited, as a male alien in "Friendship One"), with additional credits in Evolution (2001), Monster's Ball (2001), Spider-Man (2002, directed by Sam Raimi), and The Librarian: The Curse of the Judas Chalice (2008, with Stana Katic).
