Lorenzo Gonnelli Biography
Lorenzo Gonnelli is an Italian director, screenwriter and photographer. After graduating with honours in Visual Communication, he began his career directing music videos for the Cave Canem label. His works have been selected for numerous international festivals, including the 40th Leeds International Film Festival, the 27th Festival Inventa un Film and the 23rd Caostica Film Festival in Bilbao.
In 2017, he worked as an editor for Sheep-Sheep, an audiovisual installation by Antonio D'Addio presented at the 57th Venice Art Biennale. Since 2018, he has been collaborating with the Q2Visual collective, creating video mapping projects presented at events such as Klang in Rome, the Sziget Festival and Eurosonic Noorderslag. Between 2019 and 2022, he lived in Bristol, where he worked as a director and editor for the production company Pace Film Co.
In 2023, his screenplay Catene was selected by prominent programmes and festivals, including ShorTS Development & Pitching Training, Figari Film Festival and Omladinski Film Festival in Sarajevo, winning the Sentiero Film Lab award. In 2024, he produced and directed the short film Animali Senza Dio (Godless Animals), currently in distribution. In the same year, he presented the photographic project Acciaio al Foco – Exposing Contemporary Photography (Steel on Fire – Exposing Contemporary Photography) at the Ma.
Co.f – Centro della Fotografia Italiana (Italian Photography Centre) in Brescia, at the MArteLive Biennale in Rome and at the Liquida Photo Festival, where he received the Fiuto Art Space Prize 2025.
