Murray Barber Biography

Murray Barber is a multi award winning independent VFX supervisor with over 20 years experience. He was one of the five founding-owners of Milk, an Academy and BAFTA award-winning, visual effects company, based in London. Murray worked closely with acclaimed director Ben Wheatley as VFX Supervisor on his 2015 and 2016 feature films High-Rise and Free Fire.

As Milk's VFX Supervisor on Doctor Who Murray led the team to win two BAFTA Television Craft Awards in 2014 and 2015, one of which was directed by Wheatley. Murray supervised VFX work on Working Titles Film Swimmers, supervising the shoot in Turkey during lock down, YouTube's ten episode sci-fi series Origin, including four months supervising the VFX shoot in Cape Town, South Africa.

He also supervised Milk's work on Warner Bros. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald. Prior to the launch of Milk, Murray was Visual Effects Supervisor and Senior 2D Lead Compositor at The Mill TV and Film where Murray's credits include 28 Weeks Later for DNA Films, The Hollow Crown for the BBC and Sky1's drama Skellig. He was responsible for leading his 2D team on high profile dramas including Doctor Who, receiving a VES nomination as well as a BAFTA Craft Award for outstanding visual effects in 2009 and an RTS Craft Award in 2010.

Murray has a strong film background with extensive experience as a compositor on many feature films including three of the Harry Potter films, Black Hawk Down, Troy, Kingdom of Heaven, Pride & Prejudice, Sahara and the two Tomb Raider films, Stormbreaker, Sunshine, Elizabeth: The Golden Age, Big Fish, Around the World in 80 days, The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, The Da Vinci Code, Amazing Grace and Casino Royale.

Murray has worked at a variety of facilities including The Moving Picture Company, Double Negative, Mill Film and Cinesite. Murray is a voting member of B.I.F.A. (British Independent Film Awards.)
