Shah Rukh Khan Biography

Shah Rukh Khan, widely known as SRK, "King Khan," and the "King of Bollywood," is an Indian actor, film producer, entrepreneur, television personality, philanthropist, and one of the most influential figures in world cinema. He is widely regarded as one of the most internationally recognized and commercially successful actors in the history of Indian cinema.

Born in New Delhi, India, Khan studied at Hansraj College, University of Delhi, received theatre training under Barry John, and later pursued Mass Communication at Jamia Millia Islamia. During his college years, he actively participated in stage productions, laying the foundation for his acting career. He made his television acting debut with *Fauji* (1988), followed by *Circus* (1989).

Following the deaths of his father in 1980 and his mother in 1991, Khan relocated to Mumbai to pursue acting professionally. Khan's first signed feature film was *Dil Aashna Hai* (1992), directed by Hema Malini. However, *Deewana* (1992) was released first and is officially recognized as his theatrical film debut. His performance earned the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut, launching one of the most successful careers in Indian cinema.

Over the following three decades, he has appeared in more than 116 films, with notable performances in *Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge* (1995), *Kuch Kuch Hota Hai* (1998), *Chak De! India* (2007), *My Name Is Khan* (2010), and *Jawan* (2023). He has also produced more than 18 feature films. Khan has won 14 Filmfare Awards, including a record eight Best Actor awards.

In 2005, the Government of India honored him with the Padma Shri. The Government of France awarded him the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (2007) and the Legion of Honour (2014). In 2023, Guinness World Records recognized him as the Most In-Demand Actor in the World for 2022–2023. In 2025, he received the Silver Lotus Award for Best Actor at the 71st National Film Awards for *Jawan* (2023).

Beyond acting, Khan co-founded Dreams Unlimited in 1999 with Juhi Chawla and Aziz Mirza. In 2002, he established Red Chillies Entertainment with Gauri Khan, one of India's leading film production and visual effects companies. He is also the co-owner of the Kolkata Knight Riders franchise in the Indian Premier League. Khan has hosted the Filmfare Awards, IIFA Awards, Zee Cine Awards, Star Screen Awards, and several television programs, including *Kaun Banega Crorepati* (Season 3), *Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain?*, *Zor Ka Jhatka: Total Wipeout*, *India Poochega – Sabse Shaana Kaun?*, *TED Talks India Nayi Soch*, and *TED Talks India Nayi Baat*.

He later hosted the 24th IIFA Awards (2024) and the 70th Filmfare Awards (2025). Khan has represented international brands, including TAG Heuer in India since 2003. He is also recognized for his humanitarian work through the Meer Foundation, supporting healthcare, education, women's empowerment, disaster relief, and rehabilitation programs for acid attack survivors.

With a global fan base spanning Asia, Europe, the Middle East, North America, Africa, and the worldwide Indian diaspora, Shah Rukh Khan remains one of the most influential and successful personalities in Indian cinema, leaving a lasting legacy as an actor, producer, entrepreneur, television personality, and philanthropist.
