Plot Summary
Convicted of sexual assault, kidnapping and robbery, intellectual sociopath Caryl Chessman (Alan Alda) spends his days on death row waiting to die in the gas chamber. But through filing several appeals and writing books about his fight against the system, Chessman successfully avoids capital punishment for 12 years. By shining new light on the criminal justice system, he inspires national support. Chessman's story is told in this courtroom drama based on true events.
