Plot Summary

Mira Adams (Lee Remick) is a young housewife who tires of the infidelities of her husband, Norman (Ted Danson), and gets a divorce. Enrolling in graduate school, Mira begins a new life and makes friends through her studies, most notably with the carefree Val (Colleen Dewhurst), while still keeping in touch with suburban friends such as Lily (Patty Duke Astin) and Adele (Tyne Daly). Through the years, Mira's life mirrors the changes in society, particularly the feminist movement.
