Plot Summary

Successful novelist Mary Howard (Joan Crawford) falls in love with her married publisher, the suave Rogers Woodruff (Herbert Marshall) -- to the consternation of her boyfriend, Jimmy Lee (Robert Taylor). Mary, whose new novel revolves around a woman having an affair with a married man, believes the wife will gladly give up when she learns of the couple's true love. Meanwhile, Jimmy meets Rogers' wife, Clare (Greer Garson), and arranges for her to meet Mary, whom she knows nothing about.
