Walk this way, talk this way! There's a little bit of Aersomith in James "Whitey" Bulger — at least there is in the movie depicting his life.

In "Black Mass," Johnny Depp plays Bulger, the legendary Boston gangster. In doing so, he had to have an authentic Boston accent, something he didn't have, so he turned to an old pal.

"It's a tough one," he told Jimmy Kimmel on Thursday of having a proper accent. "Prior to going to Boston I spent a lot of time with one of my all time guitar hero's Joe Perry from Aerosmith. So, Joe's got a pretty thick Boston accent, so I just sponged it."

There's already Oscar buzz surrounding Depp for his portrayal of the violent kingpin who was eventually caught in Santa Monica, Calif. after 16 years on the run. Depp, for the record, has been nominated for three Oscars before, but has never won. It’s likely he's never seen the actors in the films that beat him either, since he rarely watches films, including his own.

Until now.

"I broke my rule," he told the late night host. "In Venice we showed ["Black Mass'] at the festival there. The lights went down and I told the director, who's just to my right, and I said, 'Listen, I'm skipping out. I can't do it.' He said, 'Please, please, watch the film.' So I sat there hyperventilating and watched, and it's a beautifully made film, and there's a lot of great actors in there."
