The theme of "American Horror Story" Season 6 is still best explained through that question mark in the logo.

Last night (September 14) marked the premiere of "Chapter 1" and, with it, total confusion. Fans saw what appeared to be a subtitle theme in "My Roanoke Nightmare" -- seeming to give the promo win to that house in the field (sorry "The Mist," sorry lullaby thing we thought would be the theme) -- but then got lost all over again when the show had no opening sequence, didn't feature many of the usual cast members, ended earlier than expected, and didn't air a promo for future episodes right after the premiere.

Early Thursday morning, after the West Coast airing, FX did share a new trailer that suggests future eps will continue to follow re-enactors Matt (Cuba Gooding Jr.) and Shelby (Sarah Paulson), along with bloody Kathy Bates in rural North Carolina. Can they really keep that up for a full (even if abbreviated) season?

Some fans left the premiere feeling intrigued, and gratified that AHS6 seems to be featuring more traditional horror scares. But other viewers were frustrated and confused, and shared their feelings on the trending hashtag:

What did you think of "My Roanoke Nightmare," and will you return to see what happens in "Chapter 2"
