Carrie Fisher waited 40 years to open up on the three-month affair she says she had with Harrison Ford when they filmed Episode IV back in 1976. She was 19 at the time, and Ford was a 33-year-old married father of two, still with his first wife, Mary Marquardt.

Fisher told People she stumbled on her journals from when they were filming the movie in London, and she decided to open up on the affair. The magazine now has an exclusive excerpt from Fisher's book, "The Princess Diarist."

"It was so intense," Fisher said of her fling with Ford. "It was Han and Leia during the week, and Carrie and Harrison during the weekend." She really gushes about him in her diary, which most of us did as teens, it's just that this teen was thrust onto the world stage in a major film role. Fisher said the affair took her by surprise and ended once the film wrapped, but she remembered the time fondly. "I was so inexperienced, but I trusted something about him. He was kind."

His wife may not have thought he was that "kind," but oh well. People said Fisher gave Ford a heads-up on the book and he declined to comment. (He's probably wishing she hadn't opened up, but hey -- he was the married one.) Ford and Marquardt divorced in 1979 and he went on to marry screenwriter Melissa Mathison in 1983. They separated in 2001 and he is now married to Calista Flockhart.

If the affair only lasted for three months, then it didn't continue into "The Empire Strikes Back" or "Return of the Jedi," never mind last year's "The Force Awakens." But it also sounds like they didn't have any awkwardness between them ... until maybe now?
