Golden Globes 'High-Key Petty' to Nominate Christopher Plummer for Reshot Kevin Spacey Role
It's savage. It's kinda funny, too, until you realize Patrick Stewart could've had that spot for "Logan."
The 2018 Golden Globe nominations came out this morning, and director Ridley Scott's "All the Money in the World" picked up nominations for himself as director, Michelle Williams for best actress in a drama, and Chrisopher Plummer for best supporting actor.
The Plummer one was especially surprising since he famously took over that role in November, after the movie was already finished, when Ridley Scott decided to replace Kevin Spacey. Scott did some very quick reshoots to keep the film's December 22 release date, which was eventually changed to Christmas Day itself.
So, somehow -- in the past few weeks -- Ridley Scott reshot and edited the film, put out a new trailer, and got screeners out to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for awards consideration?
The nominations, especially for Plummer, felt like more of a slap to Kevin Spacey than an award for Christopher Plummer, no matter how good he probably is in the movie. (And when is he ever not good?)
The fact that Christopher Plummer got a #GoldenGlobes nod for a role he did in two weeks for part originally given to Kevin Spacey is high-key petty of the HFPA pic.twitter.com/qBn1kvCShp

Shows Christopher Plummer's talent as a true artist . The ability to take over a role, learn lines, to deliver a performance in two weeks is amazing. That's acting

Biggest surprise story out of the #GoldenGlobes nods: ALL THE MONEY IN THE WORLD landing multiple nods. With the nod for Christopher Plummer, it's gotta be the first time an actor was nominated for a role he landed & performed in span of one month pic.twitter.com/6JG2LM1nG7

whomst has actually seen christopher plummer's performance outside of ridley scott and the crushed red bull cans in his editing suite

If this isn't an indictment of the entire cinematic award season, I don't know what it...Par for 2017.

Patrick Stewart should've gotten that spot with Logan

They're for real gonna give Christopher Plummer a golden globe for not being Kevin spacey?

So Kevin Spacey's sexual assault allegations came out, his role in "All the Money in the World" was immediately replaced by Christopher Plummer, and now Plummer has been nominated for a Golden Globe for that exact role.
Damn, Hollywood. Your unpersoning methods are savage.

I'm just fascinated by how perfectly HFPA it is to nominate Christopher Plummer for a role he finished filming like twenty minutes ago.

Everyone when Christopher Plummer goes up to accept his #GoldenGlobe for #AllTheMoneyInTheWorld.

I'm laughing at the fact that Christopher Plummer JUST replaced Kevin Spacey in ALL THE MONEY IN THE WORLD and he already has a Golden Globe nomination for it. Wtf?

It's true that the Golden Globes are the "fun" awards show -- known for boozy speeches and the insular HFPA's adoration of famous names -- as opposed to the more respected and serious Academy Awards. Fans can judge Plummer's performance as J. Paul Getty when "All the Money in the World" opens on December 25. The 2018 Golden Globe Awards will air Sunday, January 7 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on NBC.
