It's not like "Lady Bird" directed itself to that Golden Globes win.

Natalie Portman and Ron Howard had the super tough job of following Oprah Winfrey's incredible Cecil B. DeMille Award speech. Natalie found a way to keep the attention on Time's Up as they presented Best Director by pointing out the lack of women in the category.

It's not like there were no women worthy of contention. "Lady Bird" won Best Picture – Comedy or Musical, so you'd think director Greta Gerwig would've at least been nominated. Nope! Dee Rees of "Mudbound" would've also been a good option, or even Patty Jenkins of "Wonder Woman," although that one might be a stretch.

Greta Gerwig was genuinely robbed, though, although she was allowed to be the one to speak when the film won best comedy.

Considering it was a night aimed at celebrating gender equality, many famous fans celebrated Natalie Portman's not-so-subtle shade:

Many fans thought Greta Gerwig should've taken Ridley Scott's place. That's not to blame the directors themselves, it's blaming the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for honoring her film while ignoring the person who made it. As Barbra Streisand noted at the end of the show, she was the last woman to win the directing award, and that was in 1984. "Time's up!"
