Nicole Kidman can act her way to an Oscar, but she can't successfully put her hands together for applause.

Fans noticed, and mocked, her seal clap during the 2017 Academy Awards; the "Lion" nominee has now finally explained why she did this all night:

Kyle of Australia's "Kyle and Jackie O" radio show defended Kidman's "seal hands," guessing she was just trying to protect the millions-of-dollars in bling she had on her fingers.

"It's so true," Kidman replied. "I'm so glad you clarified that. It was really awkward. I was like, 'I wanna clap, I don't wanna not be clapping," which would be worse, right? Like, 'Why isn't Nicole clapping?' So therefore I'm clapping, but it was really difficult because I had a huge ring on that was not my own -- but it was absolutely gorgeous -- and I was terrified of damaging it."

Ah, the problems of the rich and famous. You can see the size of her rings in the photo at top. They're like car-denting hailstones. Maybe just go with a necklace next time, if clapping during an awards show is going to be such an issue.
