Proclaiming "they cannot ignore us anymore," Salma Hayek ripped Hollywood's gender gap Friday but said she sensed the first stirrings of positive change.

“We are the generation that said, ‘We’re not going away at 30,'” she said to uproarious applause at the Power of Women luncheon in Beverly Hills, according to organizer Variety.

Studies have consistently shown that women and minorities lag far behind in Hollywood, but Hayek said that after two decades as an activist for women, "I can smell the airs of change, especially in this industry for the first time."

She just doesn't always see it up on the screen.

“These romantic comedies are not working anymore. Why? We changed!” she said. “I think that this is the true part of equality.”
