Matt Damon, who plays an astronaut left all alone after presumed dead during a mission to Mars, honed his farming skills in "The Martian."

"We learned how to grow potatoes, because we actually had to grow potatoes for the scenes," he tells Made In Hollywood. "We had a whole little potato farm."

As for his character, Damon - who stars in the Ridley Scott-directed film alongside Kristen Wiig, Kate Mara, Jeff Daniels and Jessica Chastain - says he's "really smart, but funny. The character does kind of methodically go about saving his life, and he does it kind of through science, but in science, that's easy for people like us to grasp."
